The Youths Enterprise Development and Innovation Society (YEDIS) is pleased to announce that its flagship initiative, “Digital Capacity Building and AI Integration for Rural Women Agribusiness Processors in Nigeria,” has been officially published as a scalable development solution on the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) South-South Galaxy Platform.
This international recognition highlights YEDIS’s commitment to bridging the digital divide for vulnerable rural women and girls by integrating practical digital literacy and Artificial Intelligence (AI) knowledge into traditional agro-food value chains, including palm oil processing, gari production, and other rural agribusiness enterprises.
The initiative addresses critical development challenges such as youth unemployment, gender inequality, limited access to digital technologies, and food insecurity.
Through targeted capacity building and enterprise support, YEDIS equips rural women processors with digital skills, AI awareness, entrepreneurship knowledge, and modern production tools to improve productivity, strengthen climate resilience, expand market access, and enhance participation in the emerging digital economy.
To date, the programme has directly supported hundreds of women and girls across underserved communities in South-West Nigeria, contributing to more inclusive and sustainable rural livelihoods.
From Global Advocacy to Local Action
Following the presentation and promotion of this initiative during the official session organised by YEDIS at the World Bank Group and IMF Spring Meetings Civil Society Policy Forum (CSPF) on 15 April 2026 in Washington, D.C., titled “Examining How Artificial Intelligence and Digital Agriculture Create Jobs in Developing Countries,” YEDIS is proud to be translating global policy discussions into measurable grassroots impact.
The recognition by the UNOSSC South-South Galaxy platform demonstrates the growing relevance of locally driven, technology-enabled solutions for inclusive development across the Global South.
Speaking on this milestone, , Founder and Executive Director of YEDIS, stated:”Seeing our grassroots model recognised internationally reinforces the importance of connecting localized, technology-driven solutions with global development frameworks.
This achievement belongs to our dedicated team, partners, stakeholders, and the resilient women processors who are transforming rural agribusiness in Nigeria.”
Moving Forward
YEDIS will continue to leverage strategic partnerships, South-South cooperation, global knowledge exchanges, and digital innovation to scale these efforts across Nigeria and Africa while contributing meaningfully to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:
SDG 1 — No Poverty
SDG 2 — Zero Hunger
SDG 5 — Gender Equality
SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth
SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
SDG 10 — Reduced Inequalities
SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals
