A delegation of seven representatives from the Youths Enterprise Development and Innovation Society (YEDIS) participated in the 2025 Africa Social Impact Summit, organised by the Sterling One Foundation in collaboration with the United Nations in Nigeria, the Lagos State Government, and over sixty partner organisations. The summit with the theme, Scaling Action: Bold Solutions for Climate Resilience and Policy Innovation, took place over two days, from July 10 to July 11, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre within the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos State, Nigeria.
The YEDIS delegation comprised Mrs. Mary Adebayo, Mr. Abass Opeyemi Abdulwaheed, Miss Waliyat Oyerinde, Miss Anokwute Vivian, Mr. Taiwo Abdullahi Oladele, and Mr. Adeoye Opeyemi Abdulwaheed. Additionally, four other members of YEDIS participated in the event remotely, including Mr. Patrick Adeyemi, who serves as the YEDIS Diaspora Coordinator.
During the summit, Mr. Abass Opeyemi, acting as the Youth spokesperson for YEDIS, raised significant questions regarding effective systemic, policy-driven, and technology-supported strategies necessary to ensure equitable access to quality education. He emphasised the urgent need to reconceptualise education from being regarded as a privilege to recognising it as a fundamental right, particularly for underserved and marginalised communities.
Furthermore, Mr. Rafiu Olaore, the CEO of YEDIS, who led YEDIS delegations, engaged with seven leaders from various non-governmental organisations in Nigeria, including the Africa Bridge Initiative, BeckyGee Foundation, Initiative for Climate Literacy in Port Harcourt, and Steer for Change Mother and Newborn Foundation, to discuss potential partnerships aimed at promoting sustainable development.
On behalf of YEDIS, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mrs. Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of the Sterling One Foundation, for graciously inviting the YEDIS founder and his team to participate in this inspiring and thought-provoking summit.
