The World Bank Group Youth Inclusion Seminar Series.

The World Bank Group held a seminar titled “Strengthening Voices, Shaping Future: Insights from Nigeria’s Young Parliamentarians.” on 3 April 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria.

YEDIS Executive Director Rafiu Olaore attended the event and commented as follows.

Nigeria’s government regularly introduces youth development policies and invests heavily in entrepreneurship education and skills acquisition programs, but these programs do not yield meaningful outcomes. There is an increasing rate of unemployment, digital divides, and inadequate infrastructural facilities.

Olaore suggested that,

  1. The government must regularly monitor and evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of the education and youth entrepreneurship and skills development programs.
  2. Professionals should handle entrepreneurship and skills development programs in all government agencies and educational institutions for fruitful results.
  3. The education curriculum should open to accommodate new developmental initiatives.
  4. Most facilitators must be better equipped to deliver entrepreneurship and skills development services.
  5. Multistakeholder collaboration is required to develop youth skills for gainful employment and leadership quality.
  6. Interdisciplinary approaches are essential for in-depth and productive training.
  7. The government should provide adequate information and support to underserved people to leave no one behind.
  8. The provision of a conducive environment is needed for business to thrive.
