Youths Enterprise Development & Innovation Society (YEDIS) celebrated the International Day of Education on the 24th of January 2023 with 135 pupils between the ages of 2 and 14 in Ikirun, Nigeria. The event was held at Love of God Nursery and Primary School, Ikirun, Osun State, Nigeria, from 9 am to 12 pm.Â
YEDIS organized digital skills training and entrepreneurship and distributed educational materials (notebooks, pens, and pencils), including refreshments, to all participants. The program included cultural dancing, poetry, and career talks among the pupils. Â
The YEDIS Chief Executive Officer, Mr Rafiu Olaore, narrated the reasons for the International Day of Education as a directive by the United Nations to all SDGs stakeholders for the celebration on the 24th of January every year. The 5th International Day of Education theme is “To invest in people, prioritise education”.
YEDIS Team undertook the training; Mr Ola Timothy, the program director; Mr Ranti Ogunrinade, the project director; Mr Taiwo Oladele Abdulwasiu, YEDIS zonal coordinator in Osun State. The YEDIS technical and administrative officers include Mr Abass Opeyemi, Miss Rafiat Olaore and Miss Waliyat Oyerinde.
The presentations emphasised the significance of formal education to youth employment, inclusive growth, and community development. The Team underscored the introduction of entrepreneurship education and digital technology application to primary school teaching curricula.
The team advised the students to emulate entrepreneurship, always be bold to display their talents, participate in extracurricular activities, participate in social and peer-group leadership movements, and the like.
In her reaction, Mrs Funke Lawal, the proprietress of the God of Love nursery and primary school, commended the YEDIS management team for their goodwill, selfless contribution to humanity and community development services. Similarly, the school head boy, on behalf of the students, appreciated the YEDIS educational support and donations towards their better future.
Finally, the YEDIS acknowledged the moral and financial contributions of the family, friends and well-wishers to the successful accomplishment of the event.
