On February 17, 2025, Rafiu Olaore participated as both a Guest Speaker and moderator at the inauguration of the Maseglo Health and Social Welfare Foundation in Osogbo, Nigeria. Mr. Olaore addressed the myriad challenges that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) encounter in developing countries. He outlined issues such as pervasive misconceptions surrounding NGO activities, obstacles in fundraising, a deficit of volunteer engagement, regulatory hindrances, and other critical barriers impeding their operational efficacy.
In his discourse, Mr. Olaore underscored the vital contributions of civil society organizations, particularly their capacity to deliver essential services to underserved communities, complement government initiatives aimed at mitigating poverty, and engage with international agencies and global partners to tackle emerging socio-economic challenges. He highlighted their role in providing educational opportunities and crisis prevention, which are fundamental to fostering societal stability.
Further, Mr Olaore emphasized the necessity of adept information management and community-centred development strategies as essential components for driving inclusive growth. He urged both the youth and senior community members to actively collaborate with civil society and NGOs to stimulate progressive development outcomes. Additionally, he called on wealthy individuals and stakeholders within the community to invest in and support the initiatives spearheaded by civil society organizations and NGOs, as these efforts are pivotal for advancing sustainable development.
In recognition of their significant contributions, Mr. Olaore formally acknowledged and presented awards to the Maseglo organisation’s patron, matron, and program coordinators, reinforcing the importance of robust leadership for effective operational management and measurable advancement.
